“The fact is, everyone is in sales. Whatever area you work in, you do have clients and you do need to sell.” – Jim Rohn … I need not say further if it applies to you or not.
Sales are dependent upon the attitude of the salesperson, not the attitude of the prospect. Here are 8 points to remember as a salesperson.
- Be sure of your worth. Be confident that what you are selling holds value for the prospective buyer. You cannot sell if your product or service is of no value to the customer. Do not mistake value for usefulness.
- Have a defined sales plan. Clarity leads to assurance. Be clear about what you want from your discussion, sale or lead or references. If you are not clear, neither will the prospect be.
- First impression is the last impression. This is not absolutely true, but it does make a difference. Present yourself worth of your prospective customer’s faith.
- You can never learn everything. Continuously train yourself and learn to adapt to the market and its changing requirements.
- Communication skills. Speak clearly with pinpoint focus. Read prospects body language. The better you are at this, the higher chances of your success.
- Manage your time wisely. Let your plan guide your day and not your day guide your plans.
- Backup. Do not be dependent on one thing. What if, your laptop battery dies on you? Would you deliver your sales presentation even after that? If no, then get a backup.
- Be genuine. Do not confuse your customer to convince him. Be honest and do not make any false claims. Your honesty will help you get repeat business from that client and their friends. False claims will only help you corner yourself in long term.
Remember, a sale is not something you pursue, it’s what happens to you while you are immersed in serving your customer.
